Anton de Kom, I shall be heard
DIRECTOR / EDSON DA CONCEICAO
‘Anton de Kom – I Will Be Heard’ (working title) tells the story of the eventful life of the Surinamese–Dutch writer, activist and resistance fighter Anton de Kom, author of the book ‘We Slaves of Suriname’ (1934). Torn apart by the injustice of colonialism, social exploitation and the betrayal of his motherland. Honoured, exiled, persecuted and declared insane, he nevertheless found the strength to tell the story that would inspire generations, up to the present day. This – in many respects – historical feature film project has been supported by the Netherlands Film Fund with a script development grant.
Awarded at the Nederlands Film Festival / Holland Film Meeting (selection 'Stories & Beyond') with the NFF Script Development Award HFM 2022.
