22nd of May

DIRECTOR / KOEN MORTIER

Sam, a somewhat dreary forty-something, works as a security guard in a shopping centre. When a bomb explodes one mundane day, Sam tries to rescue the victims. When something terrible happens, he runs away until he falls down from exhaustion. A female voice awakens him. It turns out to be one of the victims he saved. She wants to know why the suicide bomber did it. After this, Sam meets more victims he saved. They all feel the same dejection and helplessness, which he also feels. Even the confrontation with the culprit is different from what he expected. Guilt and innocence are close...

22nd of May is a Belgian/German/Dutch co-production with CCCP. The project has received realisation support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund and the Netherlands Film Fund and Rotterdam Film Fund
